Autumn in the Lakes

Autumn is a wonderful time to visit the Lakes

The area is a wash with spectacular display of colour, from the tress and plants. The leaves that remain on the tress turn from green to brown and everything in between. The ground is covered with crisp leaves and the hedgerows are dotted with edible fruits.

There are plenty of walks from the Lakelands doorstep, but you can go further afield by car, bus, or boat.

Windermere is the largest lake in the Lake District at ten and half miles long and Windermere Lake Cruises offer a ‘Freedom of the Lake’ ticket which last 24 or 48 hours.

Ullswater is the second largest lake at seven and half miles long and Ullswater Steamers offer a cruise and walk the Ullswater Way for the more adventurous walkers. The Ullswater Way is a popular 20-mile waymarked walking route that circumnavigates the lake. You can walk in any direction in full or use the steamers to walk shorter sections. There are four piers around the lake to get off and on.

Derwent Water known as the Queen of The English Lakes is the third largest lake at three miles long and the Keswick Launch offers a 50 minute sightseeing cruise or you can hop and off at one of the seven landing stages, so you can explore on foot.

Whilst the weather is generally dry and crisp, it does occasionally rain in the lakes, so when or if it should, why not amble around the local villages and do a spot of early Christmas shopping or indulge in a pint of real local ale in one of our many local pubs with a roaring fire.

Ambleside has three cinema screens, Zeffirelli’s, Zeffirelli’s by the Park and Fellini’s, so why not enjoy a date night with dinner and a movie?

If you are looking for a bit of culture, the lakes have an abundance of museums, historical houses, and visitor attractions.
